Confessions of a Florentine Pet Sitter

Sitter Confessions

"Bad Wig"

As a pet sitter, I have cared for many pets, all of whom have different needs and personalities. I call my blog Confessions of a Florentine Pet Sitter because I live and work in Florence, Oregon, but also because I am not only telling cat and dog tales that reveal their behavior and human-like emotions, but also exposing my own emotions and responses to my observations, which feel very much like personal confessions.

I have spent many hours observing and caring for my clients’ pets. While I am pet sitting I take photographs of the animals and write stories about their daily adventures and/or misadventures. Most people today travel with a laptop computer or even something smaller, so I email photos and stories to my clients to reassure them their loved ones are doing well. When I get home after a pet sitting job, I have many photos to work with for my painting and drawing projects, and lots of stories to tell, all for my next book  © 2010 Confessions of a Florentine Pet Sitter.

One universal characteristic of both dogs and cats is that most of them love the camera and attention. The camera is a third eye for which pets can, and do, turn on the charm. Another is that they do seem to feel and express emotion, not only joy and happiness, but sadness, anger, frustration and embarrassment. One of my favorite cats seemed to be in his perpetual “terrible twos.”

I have to offer a fair warning: Sometimes the nature of my cat and dog tales and word usage are not appropriate for children.  These stories were written for 18 and over in mind.
